Save the Bees Save the Planet

Save the Bees Save the Planet.jpg

When prompted with this assignment, my first thought of a cause was to focus on bee endangerment. I have completed previous artwork concerning bees and their lives, so I thought it would be ideal for me to approach this assignment with this idea. To fully understand this issue, I completed research and learned about what would happen if bees were to reach extinction and ways we can help them from that ever happening.

After the research I determined that the most important message to get across is that it is imperative that we help the bees. This is why I chose the heading to read “Save the Bees Save the Planet” because it gets the point across quickly. Then the viewer can find out the reasoning right below in the one sentence statement. Furthermore, I included ways people can help save the bees in the honeycomb graphics below. The hierarchy of information is what allows the reader to identify what the issue is, why it is important, and then how to solve that issue. I also included the source I used during my research at the bottom of the poster for people to further look into it.

In terms of design elements, I created the bee graphics, beehive graphic, and honeycomb graphics to offer visual interest to the poster and explicitly show what the poster is about. The bees are placed in a way to give the effect as if they are flying around the poster. I chose the simple color palette of brown, and yellow to tie into bees themselves and also create contrast between the text and graphics. I used several shades of the yellow and brown in order to create visual interest and depth within the image. I decided to use the font ‘Articulat CF’ because it is a sans-serif font that is clean and strong and is described as an “updated take on midcentury type design” according to MyFonts.com. In order to create hierarchy within the font, I used ‘Articulat CF Bold’ for the heading and ‘Articulat CF Normal’ for the rest of the text. Overall, it gave my poster a strong and solid voice in the message of protecting bees.

Production: Adobe Illustrator, original graphics.
